Zazen
“Za” means sitting
“Zen” is a Japanese translation of the Chinese word “Chan” which is a translation of the Sanskrit word “Dhyana” which means to concentrate. “Dhyana” also means to scatter.

Zazen periods usually go for twenty-five minutes with
5 minutes of standing or 10 minutes of walking in
between each period.

Posture and breathing are very important to Zazen.
The back should be straight, and eyes should be open. In this style of Zazen one should make an effort to hold one’s mudra slightly above one’s lap in a big round zero shape. Breaths should be full and slow using the diaphragm to move the air.
